Supervision

The Institute for Group Analysis ‘S.H. Foulkes’ (IOAF) offers group-based supervision to:

  • Clinicians for their individual or group clinical analytic work.
  • Groups and agencies in the public or private sector, including mental health professionals and caregivers working with vulnerable populations.

Clinical Group Supervision for Mental Health Professionals

The Supervision Group is designed for mental health professionals and focuses on their individual or group clinical work.

Continuous supervision broadens and deepens our clinical knowledge, revitalizes our thinking and engagement with our work, and restores confidence in our clinical skills, which are frequently tested in clinical practice.

Within a trusted setting, group-analytic supervision draws on the team’s conscious and unconscious communication network, promotes a pluralistic understanding of theories, and processes transferential and counter-transferential dynamics that emerge both in the supervised context and within the supervisory team.

Group sessions will take place at the ‘S. H. Foulkes Institute for Group Analysis’, every Tuesday from 13:30 – 15:00.

Please note that:

  • An interview will precede.
  • The cost of the Clinical Supervision is EUR 100/month.
  • The minimum duration of participation in the supervision group is six months.

Supervision of clinicians for their individual or group clinical analytical work

Coordinated by an experienced supervisor, group analytic supervision utilises the network of conscious and unconscious communication of the supervision group to process clinical material.

Group analytic supervision is the appropriate – indicated framework for clinical work with analytic groups, but it is also widely used by therapists working individually.

Working in challenging environments with difficult patients is known to elicit intense negative emotions in employees and trigger “parallel” unconscious processes within organisations that mirror the patients’ pathology.

The group-analytic approach to relationships in these supervision groups highlights the latent, unconscious aspects of communication. It can provide opportunities for support, understanding, and enrichment of the work while also mobilising the group’s or organisation’s healthy potential.
